VFW presents donation check

Terry Crane, Quarter Master of VFW Post 7464 in Grasonville, presents a $3,000.00 check to Mickey Lomax, Housing Program Administrator (left) and Mike Clark, Executive Director (right).  The generous donation is to be used to benefit the Senior Citizen Home Repair fund.

The Senior Citizen Home Repair Program is designed to repair serious health or safety hazards of owner-occupied homes of low-income senior citizens or handicapped persons. Due to limited funding, the amount allotted for emergency repairs cannot exceed $500. Persons wishing to apply should contact the Queen Anne’s County Dept. of Housing and Community Services at 410-758-3977.

Special Loans Program Rebuilds Residence

Through the special loans program, QAC Housing & Community Services was able to replace a dilapidated trailer without heat, running water, minimum electric and a leaky roof with a brand new stick-built home.  This project was accomplished via the Special Loans Program thru the Community Development Agency (CDA).  The residence is home to a grandmother, mother and three children – who certainly celebrated a Merry Christmas this year! Mickey Lomax is the Housing Program Administrator responsible for this project. Mr. Lomax is involved with another project replacing an old worn-out trailer with a new home adding an A-Frame roof, well and septic.

Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program (EMA)

Maryland received $40 million to assist homeowners in addressing back mortgage payments.  The funding came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development with the goal of helping homeowners who were facing foreclosure due to job loss or a decrease in wages, including those who lost income due to illness.  Queen Anne’s County applied to become a prime partner for the Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program (EMA) and was awarded the contract.  In the course of approximately 5 months we processed over 100 complete mortgage applications.  Over 1/3 were approved and 32 households were able to save their homes from foreclosure.  Candice Darling, Housing Program Administrator, administered this program.
