Marijuana growing operation suspected as source of Kent Island Fire on June 24…

Queen Anne’s County Drug Task Force to investigate. Officials suspect that a fire that burned nearly 50 acres of land on Kent Island and forced the evacuation of 20 homes started at a marijuana farm.

Monte Mitchell of the state Department of Natural Resources Forest Service tells The Capital of Annapolis that investigators have found what may be a marijuana-growing operation. Mitchell says a Queen Anne’s County drug task force has taken over the investigation of the marijuana farm.

The June 24 blaze fire required at least 200 firefighters to extinguish. Weeks later, the fire is still burning, but contained. Dry weather has kept the fire from burning itself out.
