Centreville Christmas Parade Tonight IS ON!

The 2012 Centreville Christmas Parade IS ON for tonight, Friday, December 7th beginning at 6:30 p.m. Streets will be closing starting around 6 p.m., so plan your route accordingly. And while there may be a little drizzle, it won’t rain on our parade!

This year’s theme will once again be Toys for Tots. The parade route has changed this year and will begin and end at Queen Anne’s County High School. The parade will travel along Rt. 304 and follow Kidwell Avenue, turn right on Commerce Street, right on Turpin’s Lane, right on Banjo Lane, left on Railroad Avenue, and return to Queen Anne’s County High School.

Centreville is the place for the Queen Anne’s County Arts Council’s 16th annual Heck with the Malls on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 9 am to 2 pm. Join more than 40 artists and artisans in this fun-filled alternative to holiday shopping. Ceramics, wood carvings, fiber arts, home accessories, jewelry, cards, holiday decorations, home-made dog accessories and treats, wildlife art, photography, handbound books, shutter art, hand crafted candles, and much more. Downtown merchants have specials and refreshments for shoppers throughout the day: Blooming Deals, Centreville Liquors, Cottage Cuts, Edwards Pharmacy, Nancy Hammond Editions, PNC Bank, Serendipidee, Split Endz, Western Auto, and An Eastridge Garden. Santa Visits Centreville

Santa will be visiting Centreville on Saturday, December 8th during Heck with the Malls. Please feel free to stop by the Santa House, located on the corner of Broadway and Commerce Street, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

There is also a mailbox located on the Santa House for letters addressed to Santa!

Bigbie Shore Performance Grand Opening

Join the Town Council of Centreville for the Grand Opening of Bigbie Shore Performance at 101 Water Way, at the intersection of Watson Road in the Centreville Wharf Building. The Grand Opening celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon. Larry Bigbie, who played for the Baltimore Orioles, has opened this new facility to help baseball, softball, and other athletes develop their skills. Come check the speed on your fastball, take a few swings in the batting cage, meet Larry, and support this newest business in Centreville.

Stormwater Utility Public Meeting

Monday, December 17th

You are invited to attend a Stormwater Utility information meeting on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company, 212 Broadway, 2nd floor meeting room. You will learn what the Town of Centreville is currently doing to address stormwater management, why stormwater has to be managed, what a stormwater utility is, what a stormwater utility could mean to you as a home or business owner, and what your stormwater fee may be. For residential property owners in the Town of Centreville, the fee anticipated under the current legislation is $30 per year. Please RSVP to TownHall@TownofCentreville.org if you plan to attend this meeting.

Tree Lighting Ceremony

Thanks to all who attended the Town Council of Centreville’s Tree Lighting Ceremony on the Court House Square last Tuesday, December 4th at 7:30 p.m. The community fellowship, caroling by Harmony on the Bay Sweet Adelines Chorus, and refreshments from Commerce Street Creamery were a delightful way to start the holiday season.

Tree Lighting Ceremony
Come join the Town Council of Centreville on Tuesday, December 4th at 7:30 p.m. for a Tree Lighting Ceremony on the Court House Square. Job Summary:
Sell media packages for QACTV. Media package includes time on television, commercial exposure on Queen Anne’s County’s website and mobile app. Follow up and maintain relationships with clients.

Education and Experience:
High School diploma and prior sales experience.

The deadline for receiving applications is Monday, December 17, 2012. All applications must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources no later than 4:30 p.m. on December 17, 2012. A Queen Anne’s County job application must accompany the resume. Applications must be completed and submitted on or before the closing date. Stevensville’s Smokehouse Grill to Manage Matapeake Clubhouse and Café

STEVENSVILLE – Kent Island’s bay front Matapeake Clubhouse will reopen this summer to beachgoers after having been closed last season due to county budget cuts. Matapeake Café will be open to the public from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

During their November 20 meeting, the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners signed a three year lease with Steven and Tammy Holden, owners of the Smokehouse Grill catering company of Stevensville. Last fall the county solicited bids from the private sector to run the café during the summer months and to manage year-round the historic Matapeake Clubhouse and grounds which have become a popular venue for weddings, special events and private parties.

The Smokehouse Grill, which has been in business for 13 years, is known for its vast menu selections a few of which are pulled pork, pit beef, pit ham, smoked turkey, BBQ Chicken, prime rib, Maryland crab cakes, steamed crabs, shrimp and several varieties of fish. Located off of Route 8 south and Marine Academy Drive, Matapeake Beach is free to the public. In fact it is the only public beach in Queen Anne’s County. The Holdens said they are already planning a family affordable menu for beachgoers who can either dine-in at the clubhouse or take their meal to the beach. The café will be op beginning Memorial Day.

The Holden family lives in Queen Anne’s County and they firmly believe in supporting the community. “Our (catering and event planning business) employees are all local and we deal with local vendors, such as Ebb Tide Tent Rentals,” said Tammy Holden. “We try to keep our business in the county.”
Husband Steven said that even before leasing the Matapeake facility, their company has been hosting about 200 events annually. He said, “Now with this waterfront site we should be able to bring western shore brides over here for their weddings and that will also help our local businesses such as the hotels, restaurants, and shops.”
